It doesn’t matter how old you are, being disowned by your father – especially in public – is going to hurt.
This is what has happened for Kate Hudson and her Brother Oliver, the adult children of Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, after a public family feud unfolded between the adult siblings and their estranged father.
The family argument unfolded on social media after Kate – known for her lead roles in Almost Famous and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – and her brother posted stinging photographs on Instagram on Father’s Day in the U.S.
Kate’s brother Oliver posted a snap of himself as a child alongside his sister, Kate smiling in the arms of their father Bill.
The caption read: “Happy abandonment day… @katehudson.”
Ouch.
Oliver followed this post with a photo of himself sitting next to his stepfather Kurt Russell with the caption, “Happy Father’s Day Pa.”
Bill Hudson, has since announced that he has disowned his children.
“I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three,” The Mirror reports.
“I no longer recognise Oliver and Kate as my own. I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer part of my life.”
“Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate.”
Bill Hudson went on to explain that he blames his ex-wife, Goldie Hawn for his children’s ill feelings towards him.
“When we split up, she never had a bad word to say about me. But when Kurt came on the scene, the narrative changed and I became the big, bad wolf.”
Bill Hudson and Goldie Hawn seperated in 1980 and Goldie repartnered with Kurt Russell three years later.
“I would say to her, ‘Goldie, why are you trashing me and saying I’m an absent father when it’s simply not the case?’ And she’d laugh and go, ‘Oh, Bill, you know it makes for a better story.'”
He went on to tell the Daily Mail: “Goldie wanted to create this myth of a perfect family with Kurt and she wanted me out. It’s time for the truth to come out.”
The 65-year-old said his decision to end all ties with his eldest children was not an easy one, but he felt it was necessary.
