The popular entertainer had anything but a conventional upbringing, but Christmas is still her favourite time of the year.
Of all the exciting ventures ahead for singer and performer Kate Ceberano, the one she’s really looking forward to is Christmas. “It’s my favourite time of the year,” says Kate, 44, her eyes lighting up as she looks around at the decorations bringing a festive touch to her Melbourne home.
“It seems like the whole of Australia loosens its tie and exhales come this time of the year, and gives in to the spirit of Christmas. I know it’s probably too excessive – the food, the gifts and the whole commercial element of it – but I just love, love, love it!”
And no clan loosens its collective tie like the free-spirited Ceberanos. This Christmas, Kate will be kicking back with her family as she enjoys playing aunty to her brother Paul’s newborn baby.
“I shall be able to just relax, not have to entertain or be on show or feel a need to ‘direct’ everything,” she says. “I’ll be able to be daughter, mum, wife and Aunty Kate.’’
Kate, who will join the Nine Network’s Getaway in 2011 and has released a CD of festive favourites, Merry Christmas, has plenty of memories of this time of year. “I remember back when I was about eight, how excited I was, waking up to a lovely hot, baking Christmas morning,” she says.
