In a night full of surprises, two of television’s most loved presenters managed to outshine all the stars at the 2022 TV WEEK Logie Awards.
The crowd was left howling when Ten’s Chrissie Swan and Nine’s Karl Stefanovic took the stage to present the Logie for Most Popular Lifestyle Program.
“Now I came to rehearsals, so I get to do the announcement,” Chrissie, 48, sledged Karl in a cheeky nod to him not showing up to the run-through.
“I was in [Gold Coast nightclub] Cocktails & Dreams, living my best life,” the Today presenter, 47, quipped about his raucous outing at the infamous Surfers Paradise nightclub with wife Jasmine.
After the joke garnered huge laughs from the audience, Chrissie leaned in to give Karl a friendly kiss on the cheek, with their obvious on-screen chemistry said to have led many TV executives to decide the hosts could in fact be the perfect pair for their own project.
“While they’ve been friends for a long time, they surprised people at how much they lit up the screen together,” a spy spills to Woman’s Day. “It had a lot of people excited.”
Nine bigwigs, who had already viewed Chrissie as “the one that got away”, are now working hard to get the pair back together.

Karl was one of the seven nominees for the 2022 TV WEEK Gold Logie, along with Melissa Leong, Julia Morris, Sonia Kruger, Hamish Blake, Ray Meagher, and Tom Gleeson. In the end, comedian Hamish Blake took out the honour.
Regardless, the Today host found the nomination itself “very unexpected”, telling our sister site TV WEEK that he’s “lucky to have a job”.
“It’s a great privilege and honour to be in front of people every morning. I think when you go through a lot in life and you experience some of the things I’ve experienced and get removed from the show, you can learn lot from that,” Karl said.
Meanwhile, as well as hosting the Australian version of Would I Lie To You, Chrissie has joined everyone’s favourite quirky singing competition The Masked Singer as a judge alongside Dave Hughes, Abbie Chatfield and Mel B.
