Kanye West says that he lost friends when he started dating his now-wife Kim Kardashian but that he’s so much a part of the family now that he even calls Kris Jenner mum.
Kanye says his friends “in the high fashion world” weighed in when he started dating Kim.
“They already had their back to her, and now they turned it to me,” he told fashion site Style.com while discussing his show at Fashion Week featuring his design collaboration with Adidas.
Kanye elaborated: “[As] soon as we started dating, fashion people were really opposed to the idea of reality stars. And all the relationships, the somewhat friends that I had somewhat built up, completely turned their backs on her and me.”
Kanye seemed rather exasperated at the thought that anyone in the fashion world would undermine his self-appointed status as the king of cool, and so, he says that while living in the Kardashian household, with his new “mum,” he threw himself into the world of fashion and styling to prove himself.
“The so-called traction that I was getting in the high-fashion world was completely thrown out the window and I was finally allowed to go to school, where every day I was in my mom [Kris Jenner]’s house, in my little brother’s old room, [Rob Kardashian]’s old room, re-tailoring a Céline skirt, re-tailoring a Saint Laurent jacket, re-tailoring a Zara top, re-tailoring Wolford…”
Kim has previously referred to Kanye’s new year fashion overhaul of her wardrobe.
“And day by day by day, [Kim and I] learned, we got better. We looked at the photographs together and she improved my style, we improved each other.”
Even though it seems Kanye suggested Kim lowered his cool status, these days, Kanye seems to think of Kim as something of a personal real-life Barbie-doll just for him to play dress-ups with – but only with couture of course!
Calling Kim’s the “the body of all bodies” to inspire his designs, Kanye said: “I just think for me as a person that dresses the most photographed person in the world, I get bored with ready-to-wear really easily.”
Kanye continued, “She was always my muse, now she’s become other designers’ muses.”
