Turning the big 5-0 is enough to send some women running for the hills. But not Julia Morris.
“I’m going to enjoy every moment of it,” the comedian shares with TV WEEK as she prepares to farewell her forties next month. “I’m going to love it.”
In fact, Julia admits she doesn’t know what all the fuss is about. After all, she doesn’t look, or feel, a day over 30.
“When am I no longer the hot, young, sexy thing?” she jokes. “When is that moment? Do you know when it comes?”
It’s this innate ability to laugh at herself that enables Julia to embrace the ageing process without any trepidation.
“Life is fabulous,” she adds. “And I think I’m doing a good job at it.”
Having spent the past 30 years lighting up screens and stages across the country, the performer is no stranger to the spotlight.
Whether she’s poking fun at her I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! co-host Dr Chris Brown, or telling hilarious jokes at her own expense during one of her sold-out stand-up shows, it takes a lot to turn Julia’s trademark smile upside-down.
But the 49-year-old mother-of-two is the first to admit that laughter isn’t always the best medicine.
“I think when everybody starts out in the industry, there’s a level of excitement – you want to connect with the Australian public, so you’re as honest and open as you can be,” Julia explains.
“But as the years go on, and you’re misquoted in the press and stories come up out of nowhere, you naturally become more private.”
Julia adds that when it comes to her two beautiful daughters, Ruby and Sophie, and her husband, Dan, she is “ferociously protective”.
“Once the cameras are off and my job is done, I don’t want any correspondence. I just want to spend time with my family and be a wife and a mother,” she says.
