Joel Madden and Nicole Richie put divorce rumours to bed with a super sweet Instagram picture

Just last week moving vans were spotted outside their LA home fuelling fevered speculation they may be about to announce their divorce. But now Joel Madden has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to his wife of five years.

Joel took to Instagram on Sunday to praise his wife and the mother of his children, writing: “Happy Mother’s Day to my best friend and partner in rhyme.”

He added: “Best wife, mother and friend a father and his kids could ever ask for.”

The Voice coach teamed the sweet caption with a candid picture of the couple, looking relaxed and happy with their son Sparrow between them.

The Instagram post follows US magazine InTouch reporting that the former Simple Life star was seeking advice from a top Hollywood divorce lawyer.

A source told the magazine, “Nicole recently met with one of LA’s most prominent divorce attorneys and is weighing her options.”

The source added that the couple were “spending more time apart because all they do is fight when they’re together.”

Damage control? Joel shared this adorable photo thanking Nicole for being a great wife and mother.

Meanwhile, the designer has done little to quash the rumours after being spotted on numerous occasions without her wedding ring, once while shopping with her sister-in-law Cameron Diaz.

But clearly Joel is keen to proceed full steam ahead with business as usual. Two days prior to his touching Mother’s Day appreciation post he shared another couple shot, this time of his feet alongside the caption: “Sock game strong.”
