The Magic Mike star has always been open about his sobriety, speaking about it candidly in his 2013 book Evolution, but it’s easy to forget the inner demons Joe faced.
The actor opened up to US Weekly revealing it has now been over 12 years since he gave up drinking.
“Of course sobriety is something near and dear to me,” Joe said.
“Twelve-and-a-half years sober. So obviously this is something very close to my heart.”
The actor, who is passionate about being healthy, spoke with HuffPost Live back in 2013 revealing how long it took him to quit drinking.
“There was a period of four years where I needed to quit drinking. It was one of those obstacles I needed to get over,” the 38-year-old said.
“My life was ruined. I was homeless, careless and broke with no career… it was worth it [to get sober].
“Once again, I needed to clear the road in order for these things to happen.”
These days, the actor is in the best shape of his life and couldn’t be happier – now engaged to the lovely Sofia Vergara (even his mum loves her!)
While Joe and Sofia may have to forgo the champagne, they have set a date for their wedding and it sounds like it will be a huge day! Sofia even has Reese Witherspoon helping out with the big day!
Joe confirmed to US Weekly that the wedding will be in autumn, a date that Sofia had been considering since earlier in the year.
“We’re kind of busy so we’re trying to do it maybe [this] fall,” Sofia revealed to Access Hollywood at the 2015 SAG Awards in January.
“It’s going to be big. We started off with 20 [on the guest list], and now there’s like pages and pages.”
