In the latest statement released by the comedian’s family on Wednesday, her daughter, Melissa Rivers, said her mother is no longer in intensive care.

“My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where is being kept comfortable,” Melissa said.

She then went on to thank the public for their continued support.

The 81-year-old TV veteran was hospitalised last Thursday after she stopped breathing and went into cardiac and respiratory arrest during throat surgey at a Manhattan medical centre. On the weekend, she was placed in a medically induced coma.

On Tuesday, Melissa confirmed that the Fashion Police host was fighting for survival on life support and in a critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan.

“On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we’ve received. At this time she does remain on life support,” the statement from Joan’s daughter Melissa Rivers read.

“I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers.”

On Monday, family and friends held a bedside vigil for the Brooklyn-born star, who is famous for her vigorous wit.
