โ€œOne of the things I love about this genre is unlike Harry Potter, where there was a through line, where there was an overarching story, a beginning and end, you are talking about discreet stories. So while a detective lives, you can keep giving him cases,โ€ the multi-millionaire was quoted as saying at a crime writing festival.

Rowlingโ€™s identity was revealed just three months after her first crime book, The Cuckooโ€™s Calling, was published. The author said on her website it was a โ€œliberating experienceโ€ to write under a different name.

โ€œIt has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback from publishers and readers under a different name,โ€ she said.

Rowling said fans could expect more than seven books in the series โ€“ thatโ€™s more than the Harry Potter collection.
