She’s the beloved Aussie newsreader who’s rocked an iconic pixie cut for as long as we can remember, but former Studio 10 host Jess Rowe has just proved she’s always been a beauty.

The journalist took to Instagram over the weekend to share a series of throwback photos to the late ’80s when she modelled for David Jones.

“Who is that girl??? Me at around 18 modelling for a David Jones catalogue! Then I cut off my hair and did catalogues in Germany for a year… not glamorous but I had so much FUN!” she captioned the post.

The mother-of-two looked almost unrecognisable without her signature pixie cut, instead rocking flowing long locks in her teens.

Fans also commented on the striking resemblance between Jess and her 14-year-old daughter Allegra, whom she shares with husband and fellow TV journo Peter Overton.

“Ohhh I see soooo much of Allegra in this photo of you,” one follower wrote, while another remarked: “The second shot looks so much like your daughter.”

The stunning modelling campaign was shot just a year before Jess and Peter, a Nine News TV anchor, first met while she was doing university work experience at the network.

Peter, a sports reporter at the time, was one of the few journalists who actually gave her the time of day. Years later, when Jessica was an established journalist in her own right, the pair bumped into each other at the TV WEEK Logie Awards, and Peter recognised her.

They got talking and with a bad boyfriend on his way out of her life, Jess thought, “Why can’t I meet a nice man like this? Why am I not attracting really good decent people like this beautiful man?’,” she told Mia Freedman’s No Filter podcast.

She got chatting to her friend, rugby league reporter Tony Peters, about her sudden singledom and her desire to find a nice guy. She mentioned Peter’s name and the next thing you know, he had rung up Peter and convinced him to ask Jessica out.

Peter was newly divorced – he married his childhood sweetheart before they split in 2000 – had just started a busy new job at 60 Minutes and was just finding his feet. He wasn’t really looking to date anyone.

Jess and Nine News journalist Peter Overton have been married since 2004 and share two daughters.

But Tony kept at him, and eventually Peter agreed he’d give it a shot.

The pair struck up a romance and tied the knot in 2004, and have been happily married ever since.

Jess and Peter share two daughters, lookalike Allegra, 14, and Giselle, 12.
