The Wrong Girl, based on the novel by Zoë Foster Blake, was one of our favourite Aussie dramas of 2016. Season two of the series kicks off tonight and star Jessica Marais, 32, tells TV WEEK what’s in store for her character Lily.

Things pick up again with Lily and Jack (Rob Collins) living happily in New Zealand together.

“We see a little glimpse of Lily and the life she has been having,” Jess explains. “She has been away in a romantic bubble.”

But life with Jack isn’t everything Lily has dreamed of. Lily is missing her life and friends in Sydney more than she thought she would.

“I suppose, she has formed her identity around the Lily that has worked at The Breakfast Bar, and the way that friends and Pete and everyone else fits into that life,” Jess says. “While she has been happy and loved up with Jack, I don’t think it’s been a conscious thing that she has been feeling, it’s a subconscious feeling eating away at her, but Jack is not concerned by it.”

Lily returns to Sydney as a favour to her old Boss Sasha (Doris Youane) and takes back her old role as a producer on The Breakfast Bar.

“Lily is lured back to the Breakfast Bar by Sasha,” Jess explains. “Sasha, unbeknownst to Lily, has been appointed head of the Network. And Sasha calls Lily up saying, ‘Look, I have four weeks to reboot the show and save it from amnesia. And I need your help’.”

It’s a high pressure situation, but Jess feels that Lily loves the fast-paced nature of the job.

“She is somewhat addicted to the drama of it all,” she says.

While The Breakfast Bar didn’t work out for Jack in season one, he’s okay with Lily returning to the show.

“It’s an environment that quite quickly he can see that she thrives in. And he is quite supportive of that.”

We can’t wait to see where the rest of the season takes them! The Wrong Girl season two premieres tonight, 8:40pm on Network Ten.
