Perhaps the most shared photograph of the No Sleep hitmaker is her infamous “wardrobe malfunction” at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show during which Janet’s breast (and nipple jewellery) was bared for all to see.
Now, the scandalous event seems to stand in stark contrast to more recent photographs of Janet, 50, that have emerged showing her head cloaked in outerwear with what appears to be an al-amira — a two-piece veil worn by Muslim women, which sits over the hair but not the face – underneath her clothing.
The head covering has since been identified as a £1,000 ($AUD1,692) Adidas men’s black wool poncho but Janet’s changing attire is but one tip-off of the star’s new path in life.
Janet’s drastic wardrobe change has been mirrored onstage and in her music by a retreat from her trademark “sex sells” philosophy. She’s ditched the flesh-baring, bondage-themed outfits she was once known for wearing instead a long-sleeved, loose-fitting, white outfit that covered her body up to her neck.
Only time will tell if Janet’s all-covering attire will disappear as she begins to settle into her post-baby body or if her new wardrobe will remain as a consequence of her new-found Islamic modesty.
The youngest member of the Jackson clan has also dumped of all the X-rated raunch that was a once-guaranteed element of the star’s offering and has even included pieces of the Islamic language in her latest songs.
She’s also been seen to end concerts by telling fans “Inshallah”, which translates to “If Allah wills it.”
As the news broke of one of the most heavily scrutinised pregnancies in recent showbusiness history, Janet and her Qatari husband Wissam Al Mana, 42, were quick to “thank God” for their “blessing.”
However, according to the Daily Mail experts believe that the star’s “miracle” birth almost certainly involved an intensive IVF treatment that would likely have involved donor eggs – unless Janet had already had proactively frozen her own years before.
Jacket nor Wissam have commented on her believed change in faith but religious conversions after marriage are common.
This week, Speaking to People a representative for Janet Jackson and her husband Wissam Al Mana, 42, confirmed that the pair had welcomed their first child, a son, on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Choosing to nix Hollywood’s latest trend to reveal a new baby’s name months after birth, the representative to the couple was quick to announce the world’s newest star.
The singer’s rep said in a statement: “Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are thrilled to welcome their new son Eissa Al Mana into the world.”
“Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably.”
Eissa is an Arabic name which is said to mean “Yahweh is salvation”, while Yahweh is Hebrew and translates to “God.” So, with that in mind, Eissa’s meaning would translate to “God is salvation.”
In April last year, the singer announced that she would be postponing her tour to start planning a family with her Dubai-based beau.
“We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change,” Janet explained in a video posted to Twitter on April 6.

“I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour.”
“Please, if you could try and understand that it’s important that I do this now,” Michael Jackson’s sister asked of her fans.
“I have to rest up, doctor’s orders. But I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can.”
We wish Janet and Wissam all the very best!
