The sporting couple put the pain of their recent split behind them and become a family again.
Jana Rawlinson’s big heart is beating fast, as if she has just crossed the finish line in the race of her life.
“I feel elated, on top of the world,” laughs the star hurdler as she wraps her arms around husband Chris and their son, Cornelis. “That’s what it means for the three of us to be together, a family again after so much time apart.”
Yes, it’s true, the Rawlinsons – Australian sport’s roller-coaster couple – are back on track and giving their marriage another chance, relying on the power of love to erase the pain of their “worst year ever”.
They are so sure of their feelings, Jana and Chris are preparing to marry again, even though the divorce Jana set in motion last year will only become final in early 2010. “We don’t care – we want to get married again, just us this time on a deserted beach somewhere,” Jana says, smiling into Chris’s eyes.
“It’s been a hard road, but we now know without any question that we are meant to be together. That’s something we will be celebrating for the rest of our lives.”
Jana, 27, admits their seven-month separation, which made headlines, almost robbed her of the love of her life and destroyed their family. “We’ve both been to hell and back,” she says.
“But Chris is a real fighter and so am I, and no matter what happened, deep down we never gave up on each other. “I was miserable without him, and our heartache hit me harder than losing at the Olympics or anything sport-related. It’s just the best feeling to be back to us.”
