Speculation about the status of James Packer’s love affair with supermodel Miranda Kerr has once again lit up… over a pair of $100,000 diamond earrings.
“He bought them for her about four weeks ago,” confirms one mate, who refused to say whether the huge sparklers were an extravagant “kiss-off” or an early Christmas present.
“They’re amazing earrings – the sort of Christmas baubles every girl wants!”
James and Miranda have kept people guessing about their relationship for the past year, ever since Woman’s Day revealed the two started dating after ending their respective marriages.
In a modern arrangement that suits both jetsetters, friends say “they still see each other when they’re in the same country but also see other people.”
Earlier this year, Miranda, 31, holidayed with James, 47, aboard the Arctic P, his family’s super-yacht, when it was moored off the coast of Spain, seemingly confirming the duo were dating.
The romantic rendezvous came just days after Miranda’s rep was forced to deny growing speculation she was pregnant with his child, following secret hook-ups in New York and LA.
In another twist, James’s former wife Erica Packer and Miranda’s ex-husband Orlando Bloom also spent time together on the Arctic P just weeks before James invited Miranda to holiday with him.
The foursome have kept the world wondering exactly what’s going on for months, with even close friends confused as to who’s dating whom. Insiders say James and Miranda’s love affair cooled after the Spanish sojourn, with James spotted partying with Leo and a bevvy of beautiful models in LA, Miranda later spotted on dates with US tycoon Steve Bing.
The former Victoria’s Secret angel even came out publicly in an interview with InStyle last week, insisting she was “very single”, adding, “I’ll go on an occasional date here and there”.
But just how single can you be if someone splashes out $100,000 on diamond earrings for you?
