Trigger Warning: This article discusses pregnancy loss.
The Bachelor Australia season eight love birds Irena Srbinovska and Locky Gilbert have revealed their unborn baby has been diagnosed with a health condition.
Irena shared a snippet of her feature on the Red Nose podcast, discussing that their baby has a Single Artery Umbilical Cord.
In her post, Irena said, “This is something I didn’t think I was going to share but I have had a lot of questions about when my baby is due and I have deliberately not shared that for a reason.
“So early in the pregnancy our baby was diagnosed with a Single Artery Umbilical Cord which is more common than I thought. In fact 1 in 100 pregnancies have a single artery cord. The main concern being that the baby is small to develop.
“So our baby and my bump is smaller than what is expected for how far along I am and I didn’t want to be compared to other women around the same gestation as me.
“Being pregnant isn’t easy, we ourselves compare our bump, our pregnancy, our baby and our experience to those around us. I just wanted to put it out there that it’s ok if your experience is different to those of your friends, colleagues, relatives, people in media or whoever. It’s your experience and it’s special…it’s a miracle.
“Thank you to everyone who has shared their story with me, I have read them all and find so much strength from them.
“This is small exert from my chat with @rednoseaustralia I will be sharing more soon.”
Irena also revealed her and Locky’s parenting plans once the baby arrives.
“I’m only taking 9 months [maternity leave] as Locky is going to be a stay at home dad and I’m going back to only 3 days a week,” Irena shared with her followers.
The pair first took to Instagram to share their baby news in September 2023, posting a heart-warming video of them cradling Irena’s growing baby bump.
“2023 has been a year of surprises, and now Locky and I are thrilled to share the biggest surprise of our lives—anticipating a new member in our family,” Irena captioned the video (below).
“As we revel in our happiness, we’re deeply sensitive to those who face the trials of infertility or have suffered loss. Having navigated the rollercoaster of emotions ourselves, we extend our hands and hearts to those on a similar path. In the midst of life’s storms, may you find your rainbow soon 🌈
“Due early 2024 🍼”.
Numerous friends and family of the happy couple flooded the comment section with love.
“Congrats guys,” Bachelor contestant, Holly Kingston wrote.
“Congratulations!!!! Beautiful news x,” Bec Judd commented.
Charley Bond, also from The Bachelor season eight shared her congratulations.
The happy couple met in 2020 on the reality television series, and it was clear from the very beginning that they were meant to be. Not only were they head over heels for each other, but fans adored their instant chemistry.
Irena struggled with pregnancy loss early on in their relationship, but she remained adamant that they would start a family soon.
“I can’t wait to be a mum. It’s something I’ve always looked forward to. And I can’t wait to see Locky as a dad, he’s a little clucky too,” she previously told our sister site WHO Magazine.
