Tom Hanks is one of the world’s most famous and talented actors, and his relationship with wife, Rita Wilson, is a Hollywood institution, but their lives behind closed doors is much more complicated.
Fresh off the news that he has committed himself to yet another stint in rehab, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son, Chester ‘Chet’ Hanks, who also calls himself ‘Haze’ and ‘Hanx’, has posted a series of videos to Instagram admitting to Class A drug use.
The rapper, 25, revealed his long-term struggle with substance abuse in the video, saying, “I’ve been in rehab. I’ve been trying to get my s*** together and I’m doing pretty damn good.”
“I just really had to take a look at myself and my life and the way s#%t was going and all the crazy stupid s#%t I was doing and just finally admit to myself that it wasn’t working,” Chet said.
“A couple months ago I was selling coke [and] doing coke until I couldn’t even snort it up my nose anymore because it was so clogged. I even smoked crack,” Chet admitted.
The troubled man went on to encourage those struggling with drugs to seek religion, or surround yourself with others who are religious.
“If you’re struggling with this s***, go to a meeting,” Chet said, “Call some people, pray to God. If you don’t believe in God, conduct yourself with somebody who does.”
The 25-year-old’s struggle with substance abuse has been well-documented over the years, but recently Chet claimed that his addiction was a reaction to his father’s fame.
“It’s been a long journey discovering who I am because all the pressures that I’ve dealt with in my life – you know, being the son of my dad and everything,” Chet explained.
Chet’s parents, Tom and Rita, have not spoken publicly about their son’s addiction, but have asked him to abstain from posting on social media. His famous parents asked him to delete his account after Chet was criticised for repeatedly using the N-word on his Instagram.
Despite his parents’ request, Chet has refused to shut down his social media accounts, calling his parents’ views “outdated”.
“My parents are just making sure I’m good, they don’t really tell me what to do anymore because I’m grown [up], they just be making sure I’m happy, I’m safe. That’s all…” he said, adding “My parents, they be telling me to just stay off social media period… They would be like, ‘Don’t be on Instagram so much’ but they’re the old generation, they don’t get it.”
“This is the new generation. We do things differently now. If you don’t get it, you’re not going to get it.”
