Making a special return to The Project from maternity leave to discuss her Gold Logie win and inspirational acceptance speech, Carrie Bickmore left Education Minister Christopher Pyne a little red-faced by telling him that he was in her thoughts during her recent birth to second child Evie.
“I thought of you as my baby was crowning,” the presenter explained in hysterics.
The 47-year-old minister didn’t miss a beat and responded: “You’re not the first person that’s said that… kind of weird actually.”
Carrie went on to explain the reasoning behind her logic: “I was watching that night, before I went into labour — I was watching your fabulous ‘I’m a fixer,’. I thought, ‘I must remember that when I’m in intense pain – if I need a laugh.’”
Carrie was of course referring to Christopher’s very awkward interview with Sky News when he repeatedly told the host “I’m a fixer” to avoid answering questions about a controversial education reform.
The uncomfortably funny interview went viral and was likened to a comic sketch.
The politician, who was a guest host on Tuesday night’s episode of The Project, laughed off Carrie’s comments despite being visibly taken aback by them.
All the panellists, including Mr Pyne were donning beanies in support of Carrie’s bid to raise awareness about brain cancer.
