The 37-year-old, who has long suffered from alcoholism, released an official statement through his fiancée Mara Lane’s Instagram account to explain the series of events and apologise.
Concern was raised when The Tudors star was spotted looking dishevelled and downing straight Vodka in the British capital instead of attending the premiere of his new thriller, Damascus Cover, at the Cannes Film Festival.
Alongside a close-up shot of his wife-to-be, the star penned: “Mara and I are thankful for your support and kindness during this time. I apologize for having a minor relapse and hope that people don’t think too badly of me.”
“I stopped drinking immediately and it is no reflection on Damascus Cover as I was not meant to attend Cannes this year and I apologize to fans and colleagues.
He continued: “I am on the mend and thank well wishers and sorry for my disheveled appearance as I was on my way home from a friends and had not changed I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed but this was just a blip in my recovery otherwise I’m living a healthy life. Love and blessings. #Rebel #Angel.”
The actor’s statement was accompanied by this close-up shot of his stunning fiancée Mara Lane.
Jonathan has always been honest about his battle with the booze and has had several bouts in rehab since 2005. Speaking to the Irish Mirror in 2013 he explained of his illness: “I was wild, I was as wild as you can get.”
Adding: “I had a good chat with my really close friends and I came to the end of whatever, going out, getting p***ed, getting into trouble. It got really boring because I knew where I was going to go the whole time. I knew where I was going to end up.”
Later on Tuesday, Mara shared another snap with her man, this time the pair appear to be outside enjoying some fresh air.
