Hugh Jackman shocked his 7 million Instagram fans when he uploaded a new snap looking almost unrecognisable from his usually healthy self.

In the snap in question, the 47-year-old poses beside a tray of baked fish and although he presents a thumbs up, his gaunt face, dark circles and aged skin has caused fans to share messages of concern.

Behold the photo that has fans sending well wishes for the Aussie hunk.

“I’m worried about you,” expressed one follower while another added “Wow, are you okay? You look a little frail.”

Others shared a different theory; that Hugh was in fact in stage makeup for the third and final Wolverine film, which is to be based on the Old Man Logan comic books.

“He is playing old man Logan so he is likely wearing extra makeup to look older since he is playing an older Wolverine.”

Another added: “Don’t worry. That’s just a “Makeup” for Wolverine 3 movie.”

The star has indeed been growing his iconic Wolverine beard over the last few months…

The Aussie star made Wolverine famous in 1999’s X-Men. He has since reprised the role in six films, including a cameo in this year’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

Hugh has previously spoken out about the role’s physical demands, which requires him to bulk up to the point where appears “animalistic.”

“It’s absolutely physically demanding to play the role of Wolverine. There’s a lot of action, and I try to do as much of it as I can because it’s better for the audience,” he quipped in a 2014 interview with the LA Times.

“You don’t just have to look physically in shape; you really have to be mobile and be able to fight and jump and do wire work and stuff like that.”

“Of course, you want to look a certain way, but to me the look is more about him being animalistic than just looking buff.”

The father-of-two will reprise his role as Wolverine for the eighth and final time in a film based on the Old Man Logan comics.
