The matches on day 13 of Wimbledon are usually riveting to watch. But onlookers near the royal box were distracted by the very cosy antics of Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale!
After embracing each other in the stands, the Australian actor and the British actress flirted up a storm. They were even holding hands and whispering into each other’s ears for the whole crowd to see!
HUGH JACKMAN GETS FLIRTY!
An insider says, “It had to take something pretty spectacular to draw eyes away from Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts at Wimbledon. “But Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsdale canoodling was more than onlookers could ask for!”
Kate, who turns 51 this week, and Hugh, 55, go way back. They starred together in the 2004 supernatural box-office hit, Van Helsing.
Back then, Hugh was happily married to Deborra-lee Furness, and Kate was soon to be married to director Len Wiseman. But there was no hiding their affection for each other even then. The co-stars had a blast together while promoting the movie all those years ago.
SPARKS FLYING
And as they sit together in the stands at the iconic London tennis event, the chemistry is still there. “There are huge sparks flying and this is more than just Hugh’s naturally flirtatious ways,” the source reveals.
“You can tell he’s pretty taken by his old co-star, who hasn’t aged a bit since that movie was filmed 21 years ago.”
It is arguably the happiest that Hugh has looked in months, following his shock split from his long-time wife in September last year.
The same could also be said for Kate, who has been open about her struggles after the death of her stepfather, her mother’s cancer diagnosis and an illness that left her in hospital for six weeks.
BACK TO HIS BEST
The insider says, “Seeing Hugh look so happy for the first time in months is a joy to behold. They’ve clearly reconnected in a big way and everyone’s hoping this will turn into something more than a rebound.”
Kate appears to have been single for some time, having last publicly dated much-younger comedian Pete Davidson, 30, in 2019 and Canadian rapper Goody Grace, 27, the following year.
Now an insider reveals the actress has her sights set on someone more mature for her next relationship. “They’re a match made in heaven – she’s clever, British and tired of dating meathead toyboys,” the source says.
“Hugh’s hotter than any 20-something she could pull and he’s such good fun to be around.”
FROM FRIENDS TO LOVERS?
It also helps that she’s got friendship as a foundation with the Aussie star. In 2021, Kate revealed that she wasn’t a huge fan of going on dates, admitting, “I’ve really barely ever been on a date. I just can’t think of anything I’d hate more than sitting in front of somebody that I don’t know, that chances are I won’t like, and then have to sit and watch them eat food.”
The actress certainly hasn’t been shy about showing her fondness for Hugh in the past. She once opening up about a funny, yet intimate, encounter they had when filming Van Helsing together.
“He was naked in one of our scenes, and they had to wedge it all so it wouldn’t show, but it sort of all fell out, and his bits and pieces rested gently on my leg,” Kate recalled. “[He’s] just the nicest man… It was, you know, my privilege.”
DEB’S STAMP OF APPROVAL
As for what Hugh’s ex Deb would think about a potential romance between them, the insider reveals that she would approve of him finding someone new.
“She wants to see Hugh move on and is worried he’s terrified of taking that first step,” the source says. “Hugh and Deb would often cross paths with Kate at events in New York, but there’s never been anything more than a working relationship between them.”
