Celebrities rarely follow the beaten path, so when it comes to picking baby names there have been some absolute doozies.
While we patiently await the news of Katherine and Will’s royal baby name, let’s have a look over some of the weirdest and wackiest celebrity baby names.
Zuma Nesta Rock
Rocker and style icons, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have two sons named Kingston James McGregor and Zuma Nesta Rock. You only have to look at this couple to know their children would be named something out of the ordinary, but the origin of their unusual names has remained a mystery.
It is rumoured that both boys are named after places, Kingston in Jamaica and Zuma after Zuma Beach in Malibu. As for the other names, it wouldn’t be too hard to fathom a guess at ‘rock’ and as for Nesta, this was Bob Marley’s given name.
Blu Ivy
There has never been an official statement why super private pair Beyoncé and Jay Z named their daughter Blue, but there have been plenty of rumours.
Jay Z’s favourite colour is blue, a validation that can be found in his song, Go Crazy were he raps, “My favourite hue is Jay-Z blue.”
As for Ivy, this is said to be in reference to the couple’s shared connection to the number four, the roman numeral of which is IV. Beyoncé and Jay Z were both born on the fourth and were married on the fourth.
Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, Petal Blossom Rainbow and Buddy Bear
Jamie Oliver took a back seat when it came to picking baby names and let his wife, Jools, pick all four of their children’s names.
Jools, a former UK model, told UK Gurgle magazine that parents should be more imaginative when picking baby names. “I’m not sure where Petal Rainbow came from – apparently it’s a My Little Pony! I wanted to call her Rainbow but Jamie told me to calm down,” Jools said.
Pilot Inspektor
My Name Is Earl star Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor after a song, not after Inspector Gadget.
Jason told Entertainment Weekly that the name was plucked from the lyrics of a Grandaddy song.
“The opening track, ‘He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot,’ absolutely blew my mind when I first heard it. It was from this track that my wife, Beth, came up with the name Pilot for our son.”
North West
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s baby has only just been born and already everyone has an opinion on the bizarre choice.
Kim’s mother Kris Jenner confirmed on The View that the name North was not chosen because of the obvious geography reference but because it means ‘highest power’.
“The way she explained it to me was North means ‘highest power,’ and she says that North is [Kim and Kanye’s] highest point together,” Jenner explained.
Moroccan and Monroe
According to Mariah Carey’s official blog, Moroccan was named after the Moroccan room in her home, the same room Nick proposed to her in.
Monroe is named after the original diva, Marilyn Monroe. Of course darling!
Princess Tiaamii
Katie Price and Peter Andre told OK that their daughter Princess Tiaamii’s name was a combination of their two grandmother’s names. So where does Princess come into it?
“Katie always loved the name Princess but everyone thought it was a bit over the top. I loved it too but I wanted to name her after both our mums and then I just woke up one morning and thought ’I know! We’ll just put them together!’ If people don’t like it, that’s up to them. We’re really happy and proud,” Peter said.
Tu Morrow
Numb3rs leading man Rob Morrow chose a peculiar name for his first born daughter, Tu Simone Ayer Morrow. Even with the extra names thrown in between, you still can’t help but think of tomorrow.
Don’t be fooled though, this was not a simple mistake, the actor told People that it was 100 percent intentional.
“It’s a tradition, he said after explaining his wife’s name is Debbon Ayer. “She is debonaire! And if we have a son, I want to name him Bone, but I don’t think Debbon will let me,” he said.
Sparrow
Joel Madden and Nicole Richie told People that they named their son Sparrow because of the connection to the famous Disney character, Jack Sparrow, and because it reminded Joel of the Johnny Cash song ‘A boy named Sue’.
“I wanted to give him a name that he’s going to have to stand up for. I love it, I think it’s a beautiful name,” Joel said. Sparrow is Joel and Nicole’s second child, their first, a girl called Harlow.
