How JK Rowling’s US election tweets won our hearts

In 140 characters, the Harry Potter author rallied her fans and called for people not to give in to bullies.

There’s no denying that the popular author has a way with words – but being able to compress this into a chosen few that inspires and reassures, now that is a true gift.

Last night JK Rowling took to Twitter to express her feelings about the US election and Trump’s win – and also to respond to questions and criticisms. With one beautifully crafted tweet, she rallied the troops.

A follower asked her this on Twitter: “The hard thing to do is to keep on keepin’ on when the bullies actually win. How do we even move forward from here?”

Here’s her answer:

In another tweet, responding to a call to ignore the bullies, she wrote this: The easy thing is to keep your head down & let the bullies run amok. The right thing to do is to challenge racism, misogyny and hatred.

All night she stayed strong, tweeting and retweeting and not letting the bullies and the haters get her down, or have a voice.

It wasn’t all wisdom and a call to arms for JK Rowling. She did allow a moment of twitter jocularity when someone sarcastically called her thoughts deep, and branded her an “emo leftist” – her response was fabulous.
