In an interview with British broadcaster Capital FMLiam boldly lifted the lid on Zayn’s true motives following him jumping ship during their world tour.
“He wanted to go and spend some time with his family and missus,” Liam said, in reference to Zayn’s fiancee Perrie Edwards.
“It’s like any other job really, sometimes you have to move on because you’re not enjoying what you’re doing as much.”
When Zayn left the band in March speculation arose that Perrie had a part to play. Following Zayn being snapped with bikini-clad girls in Thailand, the Little Mix singer was said to be devastated.
The 22-year-old reportedly flew back the London in a bid to save his relationship with 21-year-old and shortly after an announcement was made he made the decision to leave the band.
At the time the 22-year-old said: “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”
But so far he hasn’t had much success. Perrie Edwards is facing the wrath of dedicated Directioners who are labelling her as this generation’s Yoko Ono, who was blamed for breaking up The Beatles after John Lennon left to be with her.
However, Liam had nothing but kind words for his one-time BFF: “We wish him [Zayn] all the best with whatever he goes into and stuff. We’ll just have to see what happens.”
Despite showing very amicable feelings for Zayn, his relationship with other One Direction members may have soured.
Only weeks ago, Louis Tomlinson tweeted “remember when you had a life?” to Zayn in what became a heated social media exchange between the former band mates and Zayn’s new music producer Naughty Boy.
Just last week the boys made an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Cordon where they told the host they were “angry” Zayn left the boy band, but at the same time they still supported him.
