It’s been 18 year since Paul McCartney toured Australia but did the Beatle’s front man just drop a clue he might be coming back down under?
Yesterday the 73-year-old posted a message on his Instagram which some are taking to be a sign of the Hey Jude singer’s return.
Under a vintage photo of the rocker drapped in an Aussie flag McCartney wrote:
“Salutations to our cousins down under on Australia Day,” the message read. “Have a great one. Watch out for flying Kangaroos!”
While he was wishing us well for Australia Day he hasn’t mentioned the celebration in the past – so why now?
The picture he used was a promotional picture from a cancelled 1993 Australian tour which struck a chord with some of his 172 thousand Instagram fans.
User @gondolin_18 wrote: “C’mon Paul. Stop teasing and announce that Australian tour! P.S. Really good tiny venue at Bulli (heritage hotel) for the unannounced warmup gig!”
And @jarrodhenry74 wrote: “@paulmccartney please could you give us an Australia Day present and tour here again? We love you so much.”
But the hurt from abruptly cancelling his Oz tour 14-years ago – it was just two weeks after the Bali bombings and Sir Paul said it was “not the appropriate time for a rock show,” – still lingers for some fans who forked out $500 to see the singer.
User Con Markis wrote: “Get stuffed Paul. You SHAFTING Australia has not been forgotten.”
We guess that means more tickets for us then Con. Please come back Paul!
