Halle Berry has talked about her shock at falling pregnant and having a baby at the age of 47, saying “I didn’t think it was possible to have another baby.”

Speaking with Ellen Degeneres on her talk show, Berry has revealed that when she fell pregnant with her son, Maceo Martinez, she was premenopausal, making it all the more incredible.

“I was, you know, on my way…this is probably way TMI [Too Much Information], but I was really, you know, kinda premenopausal so to have this happen was a huge [shock].

“I didn’t think it was possible at my age,” Berry said.

“‘Cause you’re like 65 right?” Degeneres quipped, prompting Berry to explain that at the age of 47, “They call it a geriatric pregnancy.”

Berry considers the child a miracle, saying that her six-year-old daughter, Nahla, “prayed and prayed for him, for like a year and a half, for a baby and a bunk bed. And she got both of those things.

“Only her prayers could have done this. I didn’t think it was possible at my age, honestly.”

Berry isn’t the only star to give birth over 40! There are plenty of celebrities who have managed to give birth to healthy babies later on in life.

TV host Leila McKinnon, 41, this week gave birth to a new baby girl. Layla and her husband, David Gyngell had their first child, a boy, Edmund “Ted” McKinnon Gyngell, in October 2011.

Salma Hayek was 41 when she gave birth to daughter Valentina in September 2007.

Naomi Watts had her second son Samuel in December 2008 at age 40. Watts and partner, Liev Schreiber already had one boy together, Sasha, born the year before.

Madonna was a few days shy of her 42nd birthday when she gave birth to her second child, a son named Rocco with then-husband, Guy Ritchie. While Madonna already had a daughter, Lourdes, she went on to adopt two children, David Banda and Mercy James after Rocco’s birth.

Marcia Gay Harden was 44 when she gave birth to twins, Julitta and Hudson, in 2004. The twin’s big sister, Eulala, was born six years before in 1998.

Jennifer Connelly gave birth to her fourth child and first daughter named Agnes in May 2011 when she was 40.

Christie Brinkley was 41 when she had her son Jack and 44 when she gave birth to daughter Sailor. Brinkley had already had an older daughter, Alexa, with first husband, Billy Joel.

Tina Fey was 41 when she gave birth to second daughter Penelope in 2011.

Kelly Preston and John Travolta welcomed their third child Benjamin into the world in 2010 when Kelly was 48.

Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon welcomed twins Moroccan and Monroe in April 2011 when she was 41.

Julianne Moore was 41 when she welcomed her second child, daughter Liv in April 2002.

Susan Sarandon was nearly 40 when she had her first child, Eva (pictured), and went on to have son Jack at 42 and Miles when she was 45.

Jane Krakowski welcomed son Bennett into the world at age 42 in April 2011.

Nicole Kidman had her first biological child, Sunday Rose, at age 41, and two-and-a-half years after Sunday’s birth Kidman’s third daughter, Faith Margaret, was born via gestational surrogate. Nic already had two adoptive children, Isabella and Connor with her first husband, Tom Cruise.
