The man accused of stalking Hollywood starlet Gwyneth Paltrow has been found not guilty on all charges by the jury.
The 43-year-old last week broke down in court last week as she shared her terrifying experiences of the reported stalker, 66-year-old Ohio native, Dante Michael Soiu.
She testified to incidences over the past 17 years that he has been following her, and spoke of new correspondence which include messages saying he would marry her, pornography, unsolicited gifts and references to her death.
The Oscar-winning actress also told the court he had sent her 66 letters between 2009 and 2016.
Soiu pleaded not guilty to the case and jurors released him of his charges on Wednesday. They also reportedly ruled that he should not be hospitalised for psychiatric treatment.
Lynda West, Soiu’s attorney, told ET that Soiu has previously mailed letters to other actors, but none of which have ever felt threatened.
“We’re dealing with a lonely guy who’s on supplemental security income, and sits in his apartment in Ohio at his computer and writes letters to Angelina Jolie, Sylvester Stallone, Julia Roberts, President Obama, Michelle Obama,” Westlund said.
“None of it has ever been perceived by anybody else, besides Gwyneth Paltrow, as threatening.”
In 2000, he was previously committed to a mental institution for six years after another court case, again involving messages he had sent Gwyneth. He was rearrested in 2015 for contacting her again.
