Her 13 year marriage to Gavin Rossdale came to a devastating end months ago, and up until now Gwen Stefani has remained tight-lipped about it.

Gwen Stefani stopped by The Today Show studios with her fellow coaches to talk about their role on The Voice, when a question about her divorce took the Grammy winner by surprise.

Host Matt Lauer brought up the topic of Gwen’s new song Used To Love You and asked her to confirm what we had suspected all along – if the track is about her failed married.

“Because your personal life has been in the headlines, are fans misinterpreting something here or is it all right there in front of us – in terms of the meaning of the song,” Matt asked.

“Put me on the spot,” the shocked mum-of-three exclaimed.

“What I’ll say about that is that I’ve never put a record out where I’m actually going through things in real time.”

“I wrote that song like a couple weeks ago, and then I sat in front of a camera in a dressing room randomly not making a video, just to do some video for the screens behind me, and it went out and it’s the video and it’s like all very real,” she added.

The hit song I Used to Love alludes to the star’s divorce from Gavin, with whom she shares sons, Kingston, nine, Zuma, six, and Apollo, 19 month.

In the video clip for the song, the former No Doubt frontwoman can be seen breaking down in an emotional state.

Gwen and Gavin filed for divorce in August citing “irreconcilable differences.”

“While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” the pair explained in a joint statement.
