According to TMZ Gwen believed her husband Gavin had been unfaithful, which promoted the 45-year-old to file for divorce.
Sources have revealed to the website that their shock split was actually “a long time coming,” partly due to the Bush frontman’s extensive tour schedule.
The well-placed pal revealed to TMZ that Gwen wished her 49-year-old husband was home more often.
The source claims the situation was exacerbated when Gavin began feeling the former No Doubt member was being hypocritical as she also tours regularly.
It’s not the first time the rock star has faced a romance bombshell.
In 2010, Gavin admitted to a five-year relationship with crossdresser Marilyn, real name Peter Robinson, in the mid-Eighties.
“I’ve never wanted to appear closed about it, it’s not something I’ve talked about really because it’s always been in the glare of a tabloid world,” Gavin told Details magazine in 2010.
Adding: “I think at the outset there was a sort of fear – that was right at the beginning of Bush, and I didn’t want it to be part of it. It felt like a cheap shot, so I was like: ‘I’m not getting involved.’ When you’re 17, Jesus Christ, I don’t think there’s anything strange about any form of anything – you’re learning about life. It’s a part of growing up – that’s it, no more, no less.”
The relationship was first written about in George Michael’s 1995 autobiography Take it Like a Man, however both men at the time denied it but eventually came clean.
Marilyn, now 52, confessed that he and Gavin’s relationship lasted five years and the rock star was the love of his life. “He was just becoming successful in America. I agreed to lie against every grain of my being,” Marilyn told In Touch Weekly in 2009.
It’s alleged Gavin hadn’t told Gwen about his former relationship with Marilyn until it surfaced years later.
In 2004, Gavin’s world was rocked yet again when a paternity test revealed he had fathered another child, Daisy Lowe, with UK fashion designer Pearl Lowe.
Despite the latest dramas to rock camp Stefani-Rossdale, the couple are seeking joint custody of their children and are determined to remain civil for the sake of their three sons Kingston, nine , Zuma, six, and Apollo, one.
