The swimming champ fears losing her home as she fights her estranged husband, ironman Grant Kenny, over their $80 million empire.
Just when Lisa Curry thought she had found happiness with her toyboy lover, the swimming champion has been left heartbroken after estranged husband Grant Kenny made moves to sell her home. A devastated Lisa broke down, telling friends and insiders on hit show The Celebrity Apprentice how she fears she could struggle to make ends meet, despite sharing in a business empire once estimated to be worth $80 million.
The final straw came when Lisa, 49, discovered Grant had enlisted real estate agents in their hometown of Mooloolaba, Queensland, to value the home she shares with musician boyfriend Joel Walkenhorst, 29 – in preparation for its sale. isa was very upset about how she felt Grant was treating her,” confirms a Sunshine Coast realtor, one of several agents called in to assess the investment property Lisa has called home for the past six months. “I made enquiries about doing as he asked [putting the house on the market] but found myself in the middle of an unpleasant tug of war between the two of them. It was pretty embarrassing and I know she felt humiliated.”
Friends say Lisa, who was once one of Australia’s highest paid sports stars, has faced some financial struggles since splitting with Grant in May 2009, but she was stunned when he recently indicated he wanted to sell the canal-front mansion she shares with Joel. “I’ve learned that, no matter what happens, how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow,” brave Lisa recently tweeted. “I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as making a ‘life’.”
Lisa even broke down in tears on the set of The Celebrity Apprentice as the war between her and Grant over their once booming financial empire erupted. She is fighting for a slice of their multimillion-dollar fortune. “Lisa has never had to worry about money and she does lead what, to some people, might seem quite an extravagant lifestyle, so it came as a shock when she left Grant and found herself short of cash,” confides an insider.
