2DayFM radio host Grant Denyer has hit back at rumours “things are at breaking point” at the station because of his co-star Em Rusciano.
“We are all in this together and we want it to work,” Grant, who is nominated for the coveted TV Week Gold Logie, tells Woman’s Day. “We wouldn’t have started it if we didn’t. We [Em, Ed Kavalee and I] are all so different but that’s also our strength. We will figure it out”.
Last week, it was reported some of the staff at the breakfast show were refusing to work with Em because of her diva-like behaviour.
“She makes it a toxic work environment,” claimed one former staffer. “”She seems really insecure. She portrays this really confident, ‘I think I’m the greatest!’ image but I think it stems from a really deep-seeded insecurity, which is really sad.
“She just doesn’t know how to interact with people. She won’t compromise with anybody. She’s always has to be right.”
But Grant, who says Em is “a lot of fun”, insists that’s not the case.
“We are all a bit fragile on the inside. Sometimes we dress it up on the outside by acting tough. We talk all the time and I hope she’s doing okay”, he says.
Em has accused Sydney media of doing a “hatchet job” in a since-deleted post on Facebook.
“Guys, thank you for your concern over the hatchet job some of the Sydney media are attempting on me, but this time last year I was burying my son. If I can survive that, I can certainly get through this,” the post said.
Last year, Em revealed she was taking some time off from her work commitments after suffering a miscarriage.
“I’m not sure I’m built to withstand this kind of heartbreak, I’m not sure any mother is,” she said at the time.
