Hey Upper East Siders – and everyone else – it’s been ten years since Gossip Girl first graced our screens.
To celebrate, executive producer Joshua Safran spoke to Vanity Fair to dish on all the behind the scenes secrets. But, it was what he had to say about Blake Lively’s dating life that had us hooked harder than anything Lonely Boy could ever muster up!
Joshua spilled that Blake – who briefly dated Leonardo DiCaprio back in 2011- would stay in touch with the Hollywood heartthrob by sending him, erm, strange photos.
Blake and Leo dated for 5 months back in 2011.
“She had this thing where she had a doll that she took photos of that she sent to Leo,” Joshua revealed. Huh?!
“Blake was way ahead of the curve. It was pre-Instagram. She was documenting her life in photographs in a way that people were not yet doing,” he said of the pics.
Of course, before dating notorious Lothario Leo, Blake had a relationship with her Gossip Girl co-star, Penn Badgley for three years. In a case of life imitating art, the pair played lovers Serena and Dan throughout the show’s duration. But, when they called it quits in 2010, they managed to keep it a secret on the set for two whole months!

Joshua revealed that even he had no idea.“The shocking thing was, I found out on the set of the season 2 finale that Blake and Penn had broken up months before,” he said.

“They kept the break-up hidden from the crew, which you could never do now. I don’t even know how they did it. They kept it from everybody which is a testament to how good they are as actors. Because they did not want their personal drama to relate to the show,” he concluded.
We guess that was one secret they’d never tell. XOXO
