Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s love is the envy of Hollywood and now the legendary actress reveals the secret to their long romance.

“A lasting relationship isn’t about marriage. It’s about compatibility and communication,” the 69-year-old told Porter Magazine.

She added: “And you both need to want it to work. If one person does not want it to work, it isn’t going to work. Intention is the key.”

“It’s also about not losing yourself in each other,” the mother-of-three told the magazine for their upcoming issue.

Before sharing: “Being together, two pillars holding up the house and the roof, and being different, not having to agree on everything, learning how to deal with not agreeing. Everything’s a choice.”

Goldie Hawn also spoke candidly about her and Kurt’s deep care for their family unit: “Kurt came from three sisters and a very strong family unit. I came from one sister and two parents and a big family unit. That’s what we care about.”

The grandmother was frank about juggling family and a demanding career, admitting they sought the help of nannies.

“We talked about relationships and commonality early on. We had nannies, there’s no doubt about it. We’ve both been working. But we were very present with our children.”

“It’s the same way we grew up. I had a working mother, Kurt did not. My mother was right there,” she added.

In what is one of Hollywood’s greatest love stories 69-year-old Goldie and 65-year-old Kurt met in 1968 but were occupied with other relationships, they re-connected in 1983 on the set of Swing Shift.

Although they have never married, they have one child together Wyatt Russell and Goldie’s children from a previous marriage, actors Kate and Oliver Hudson consider Kurt to be their father.
