Cricketing legend Glenn McGrath and his wife Sara have revealed they are expecting their first child.
The couple, who have been married for five years, announced their happy news in the June issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly, which is on sale today.
“We’re adding to our family and we couldn’t be more delighted,” Glenn told Bryce Corbett.
It’s the baby Glenn never expected to have. He had a vasectomy in 2003, but after two rounds of IVF, the embryo took and Sarah is now three months pregnant and due to deliver in October.
The new baby will join James, 15, and Holly, 13, Glenn’s children from his previous marriage to late wife, and they couldn’t be happier.
“The kids are really excited,” Glenn says. “James used to ask us on a regular basis whether we were going to give him a baby brother. To see both their faces when they learned the news. James jumped up and gave both of us a hug and kiss. And that was really special for me and I know it meant a lot to Sara.”
Glenn was away on tour for much of James and Holly’s baby days and he’s determined to be more involved with the new addition.
“This time around, I’m really looking forward to being hands on,” Glenn says. “As much as Sara lets me!”
Answering the inevitable questions about his late wife, Glenn says he is sure Jane would be happy he was happy and pleased their children were growing up to be such lovely people.
“I know she would want me to be happy and she’d want her children to be happy and they are,” Glenn says.
“I have never been one to live in the past. Sara and I are very happy together and the kids are two really happy, normal children and I think, at the end of the day, that’s really the true measure of what Sara and I have built together these last five years of marriage.”
