One of Australia’s favourite funny-women, Gina Riley is having treatment for breast cancer.
The Kath & Kim star revealed yesterday she was diagnosed before Christmas and has since had the cancer removed. Gina says she is now preparing for further treatment to ensure she returns to full health.
After a number of her friends had battled breast cancer in recent years, 51-year-old Riley became vigilant about regular breast-checks. She is now encouraging all Australian women to do the same.
“During my regular yearly breast check, a cancer in my breast was discovered,” she said in a statement to The Herald Sun.
“I know whenever I read of other women finding breast cancer I want to know, how it was found and were there any warning signs?

“So here it is. For me there was no lump that could be felt by either me or my doctor. It was only that I went to my regular mammogram and ultrasound appointment that it was found.”
Gina said she feels “lucky and grateful” that her cancer was found early and is treatable and thanked her medical team.
The much-loved TV star has clearly kept high spirits during this tough period.
“Ladies, get your breasts check out. Preferably by a health professional,” she joked.
