George Michael passed away on Christmas Day at his home in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. He was 53.
An autopsy has confirmed that the iconic British pop star died of natural causes when his heart and kidney failed, Darren Salter, senior coroner for Oxfordshire revealed in his official findings.
In a statement the coroner said: “Inquires into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post-mortem report received.”
“As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further inquiries.”
“No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy.”
The coroner did not report any trace of drugs in the singer’s system, as was originally rumoured.
George’s partner, Fadi Fawaz, has always maintained his belief that the singer-songwriter’s body simply failed.
Taking to twitter shortly after the coroner’s statement was released, the 43-year-old tweeted, “F*** You.” He followed the provocative tweet with the message “the truth is out,” accompanied by a picture of the couple during happier times.
The Australian-native also tweeted, “All the nasty comments, press and 999 were very cruel and unnecessary whatsoever, Now I hope to receive some real LOVE x.”
The coroner’s findings bring an end to months of speculation around the cause of George’s death.
It was George’s partner, who discovered the pop star’s lifeless body at his Oxfordshire home on Christmas day.
Fadi, who had been with the star since 2012, spoke to the UK’s Telegraph shortly after the singer’s passing, revealing his utter shock over his partner’s death.
“We were supposed to be going for Christmas lunch. I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed. We don’t know what happened yet,” he told the publication.
“Everything had been very complicated recently, but George was looking forward to Christmas, and so was I. Now everything is ruined. I want people to remember him the way he was — he was a beautiful person.”
George Michael, who was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in 1963, rose to fame in the 1980s in the musical duo Wham! before branching out into a successful, decades-long solo music career.
A public funeral service is expected to be held at the end of the month while a second, more intimate gathering will also be planned for close friends and family of the legendary musician.
