You know that old saying “the rich just keep getting richer?”
Meet George. Freaking. Clooney.
Married to the goddess that is Amal Clooney, father to two perfect twins, Hollywood heartthrob…
And now he’s a billionaire. Kinda.
In today’s chapter of “Life isn’t really fair”, we bring you the news that Mr Clooney has sold his tequila company.
The actor confirmed that he and his partners, Rande Gerber and Michael Meldman, sold their Casamigos tequila company for the tidy profit of $1USDbillion to Diageo.
So many things to process…
How good is this tequila? How is it worth so much cash money? Does it make you do things you don’t regret? Does every bottle come with your personal George Clooney?
And who is Diageo?
Actually, we can answer the last question.
Diageo is a British multinational alcoholic beverages company – they make your favourite friends Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Baileys and 34% of Moet.
George, who should be buying us a round RIGHT NOW, released a statement to E! News on his huge business win.
“If you asked us four years ago if we had a billion dollar company, I don’t think we would have said yes,” it read.
“This reflects Diageo’s belief in our company and our belief in Diageo. But we’re not going anywhere. We’ll still be very much a part of Casamigos. Starting with a shot tonight. Maybe two.”
While his partner, Rande shared, “We created Casamigos Tequila 4 years ago for us to drink personally and selling it for 1 billion dollars is something we never could have imagined.”
Adding, “We remain committed to our brand and look forward to our future with Diageo and continuing our work with our dedicated and passionate Casamigos team.”
So how do you split up ONE BILLION?
CNBC have broken it down, reporting, Diageo will initially pay George and co $700 million. Then there is the potential for another $300 million that will be based on the tequila’s performance over the next 10 years.
It shall be sealed in the second half of this year.
Meanwhile, if you believe Forbes, papa Clooney, personally, is expected to make up to $USD233 million from the sale.
While Amal was busy saving civilization, George and Randy created the delicious beverage while they were building their holiday home in Mexico.
The business partners explained Casamigos, which roughly translates to “house of friends”, was originally a private tequila collection meant solely for their friends and family.
Then, in 2013 they took the liquor public… And the rest is history.
George may be committed to the company, but we’re guessing he’s happy focusing on the two new shots in his life – his baby twins Alexander and Ella, who arrived on June 6.
Insiders close to the 56-year-old spilled to HollywoodLife that the new dad is completely smitten.
“George says the biggest thing he’s learned since becoming a father is the absolute joy and wonder of unconditional love.”
“Obviously, he’s loved, and continues to love, many people in his life — with Amal being his greatest love, and his soul mate. But the twins’ birth has taken it to a whole new level.”
We’ll drink to that!
