Geoff, 35, and Sara, 30, appeared at Waverley Local Court this morning, where they pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited drug, after the pair were caught by police at Randwick Racecourse last month.

During the brief hearing, Magistrate Clare Farnan said she was unable to comprehend why the well-known couple, who have two young daughters, would be in possession of the drugs – especially since they had “so much to lose”, The Daily Telegraph reported.

“It’s disturbing that someone who is looked up to by members of the community, particularly young members of the community, chose to behave in this way,” Magistrate Farnan said.

The court also heard that police became suspicious of the pair after watching CCTV footage of them going into a disabled toilet at the Autumn Carnival.

Dressed in black, the Huegills appeared relieved as they exited the courtroom side by side.

Outside, a remorseful Geoff made a public apology and expressed the pair’s regret.

“We want to apologise to all the people we’ve let down over the past couple of weeks. We recognise that with our actions there are going to be consequences,” the Olympian told the media.

“The two most important people we want to apologise to our two beautiful daughters. We realise that while they’re quite young at the moment, at some stage in the future we’re going to have to have this conversation with our girls.”
