Oscars night is long, and there’s no doubt more than a few drinks were had and deserved by all, especially the award winners.
So we can hardly blame Gary Oldman, award winner and ultimate suave gentleman for his momentary clumsiness. It’s just a shame his new Academy award had to bear the brunt.
After the ceremony and before the after party, all the Oscar winners made their way to get their brand new golden statues engraved. One eagle-eyed reporter managed to capture Gary Oldman’s very relatable uncoordinated moment – and his very quick recovery.
No doubt the Darkest Hour actor thought he’d gotten away with the slip and we can’t help but laugh.
There’s Gary walking Oscar in hand and very close to that handrail
BANG
And the quick recovery
We’ve all been there, and this just makes us like Gary more.
The footage was captured by Scott Feinberg, Hollywood Reporter’s Awards correspondent, who tweeted the video along with caption:
“I think I witnessed Gary Oldman accidentally dent his new Oscar on his way to having it engraved…”
And he would have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!
Having his award presented by Jane Fonda, 80, and Dame Helen Mirren, 72, was always going to make his acceptance speech tough.
So how does Gary Oldman follow that?
The Brit did surprisingly well, thanking his loved ones for all the support over the years.
The highlight had to be his shout out to his 91-year-old mother.
“Put the kettle on, I’m bringing home Oscar!”
