Fraggle Rock is returning for a new generation to love

The show that so entranced us all around the globe in the 1980s is coming back so our progeny can experience the magic that is Fraggle Rock.

Back when the hair was as big as the shoulder pads, and mums were vigorously working out to Jane Fonda on TV, kids were dwelling in a wonderful subterranean fantasy world called Fraggle Rock.

Well, guess what – cue huge nostalgia – because Fraggle Rock is coming back, digitally remastered and in high definition.

The show created by creative genius of Muppets fame Jim Henson first debuted on HBO in 1983 and it’s just been announced that its returning to the network later this year for a whole new generation of fans to enjoy.

“Fraggle Rock stars a cast of puppet creatures called Fraggles, quirky cave-dwellers who live in an underground world alongside their industrious green neighbors, the Doozers, and a family of enormous Gorgs,” The Jim Henson Company announced in a statement.

The adored show, which became a hit around the world and even screened in the former Soviet Union, “follows the fun adventures of the furry subterranean creatures and features a unique mix of music from all genres including folk, blues, gospel, country and rock, all while embracing themes of friendship, tolerance, diversity, and caring for the planet”.

With 96 episodes, 100 original songs and millions of fans around the world, Fraggle Rock has been watched in over 98 countries and has a bundle of awards to it’s name include five International Emmy Awards.

The catchy Fraggle Rock theme tune ‘Down at Fraggle Rock’, actually made it to number 33 on the British music charts during the height of its popularity. We’ll be humming this for the rest of the week.
