EXCLUSIVE: David Warner’s touching wedding tribute to his late mate, Philip Hughes

Aussie cricket star David Warner would have loved to have his “little mate” Phil Hughes at his lavish wedding to Candice Falzon but it wasn’t to be.

His face did, however, light up when asked what Phil would have thought about his diamond-studded Cerrone wedding band.

“He would have loved it,” laughs Dave, whose wedding band features five rows of blinding diamonds in a display of enviable bling, which could only have met with diamond-loving Phil’s utmost approval.

The late, great Australian Test and One Day International, who died on November 27, last year, was famous for his diamond ear studs and love of fashion, on top of his brilliance on the pitch.

Dave Warner touches the tribute to the late Philip Hughes.

David, 28, reveals the impressive ring ended up with a fifth row of diamonds to accommodate his “fat fingers” and was designed to match the double diamond bands, which he presented to Candice on the day.

You also won’t see the brilliant batsmen wearing the bling on the field because of its size but David reveals he is considering getting a tattoo on his wedding finger to permanently symbolise his love for Candice.

He and Candice and their eight month old daughter left on Wednesday for India where David makes his debut as captain of the SunRisers Hyperabad in the IPL, postponing plans for a honeymoon until later in the year.

“I’m going to take Candice to the south of France for a honeymoon later in the year,” he says.

David and Candice’s complete wedding album – and that incredible ring – can only be seen in Woman’s Day out on Monday.
