Candice Falzon gave up her career for love and now she tells why she happily gave up her own name when she married star cricketer David Warner.
“I’m definitely making sacrifices but I’m doing it willingly,” explains the former champion ironwoman, who has retired from competition to concentrate on being a mum to baby daughter Ivy and a supportive husband to David.
“All I’ve known since I was born is the love and support of my parents and that is what I want to give to Ivy. Family does come first for me and I’m not going to apologise to anyone for putting David first. I am definitely old-fashioned!”
David himself credits Candice with helping him turn his life around and improve his game, telling guests at their lavish wedding that his bride helped propel him back to the top after a series of off-field incidents.
“What you have done for me over the last 12 months is amazing – you make me a better person,” he told Candice in his wedding speech.
Candice says it never even crossed her mind not to adopt the Warner name after the couple married.
“I think it’s nice to take your husband’s name,” she says.
Candice wasn’t even fazed at having to postpone their honeymoon to support David in his debut as captain of the Sunrisers Hyperabad IPL team in India with both Candice and Ivy travelling to the sub-continent to cheer him on – this week to his fastest 50 ever in the IPL.
