The 70th Annual Prime time Emmy Awards are underway and this year they’ve made a point of showcasing how far Hollywood has come.
Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson and Kate McKinnon led an all-star cast in a song and dance, “rewarding” the Television Academy for the “most diverse in Emmys history”.
Beginning with a monologue, the pair were delighted with themselves when they realised the academy had “solved it” – meaning the issue of “diversity”.
Kristen Bell, Tituss Burgess, Ricky Martin, Ru Paul, Sterling K Brown and the “token straight white guy” Andy Samberg and John legend all made an appearance with the addition of the “diverse” dancers.
it was not all fun and games, because when a phone call interrupted their song – they realised they had in fact “not solved” it. And that there was still as long way to go.
Earlier in the day, the Emmys 2018: Every single look from the red carpet” target=”_blank” rel=””>red carpet lit up with the best in television all coming out to play, including Aussie Yvonne Strahovski from Handmaid’s Tale.
In fact, the actress accidentally just let slip her baby’s gender during an interview with E!’s Giuliana Rancic at the 2018 Emmys red carpet.
Opening up about her impending arrival, she mused: “I’m just gonna hold him in there hope for the best.”
Yvonne, who is up for the [Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series]|target=”_blank”) gong thanks to her powerful role as Serena Joy, quickly realised her gaffe.
“I just let it slip earlier didn’t I? Breaking news,” she laughed.
