The prolific singer-songwriter revealed the happy news on social media with a throwback picture of himself alongside his mum, Sheila Farebrother.

He captioned the touching photo: “Dear Mum, Happy Mother’s Day! So happy we are back in touch. Love, Elton xo #MothersDay.”

It’s understood the duo hadn’t spoken to each other since an explosive argument back in June 2008.

The estrangement was sparked by Sheila’s refusal to cut ties with two of her son’s oldest friends, Bob Halley and John Reid, after he had a falling out with them.

Elton went on to further their separation by failing to attend his stepfather’s funeral in 2010 and Sheila is believed to have added insult to injury by hiring an Elton John tribute act to perform at her 90th birthday party.

It comes as the father-of-two was recently rushed to hospital due to a “harmful and unusual bacterial infection.”

A rep for the British-native released a statement confirming the harrowing health scare.

“During a recent, successful tour of South America, Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection,” the statement read.

“During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile, he became violently ill. Upon returning to the U.K., Elton’s doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection.”

“After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital, Elton was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22 and is now comfortably resting at home per doctor’s advice. Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly.”

“Thankfully, Elton’s medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully. He is expected to make a full and complete recovery.”

The Rocket man, now at home, will no doubt be receiving a lot of love from his husband David Furnish, who he married in December 2014 and their sons Zachary, six, and Elijah, four.
