Elle Macpherson and her trainer reveal how the supermodel stays naturally fabulous.
She’s been our most recognisable body for more than two decades but, at 46, Elle Macpherson believes she is only just coming into her prime.
And while she admits her body is not quite as trim and taut as it used to be, the Aussie says having a “healthy attitude” to life and working out for an hour each day have kept her in top condition – even after two kids.
“I feel better than I’ve ever felt,” Elle tells Woman’s Day. “My body’s not the same as it was 20 years ago – I’ve had two children and no surgery. But I try to put aside an hour a day, five days a week, to do some sort of physical exercise, whether it’s pilates or running in the park.”
It’s not just about looking good – it’s about feeling good too. And Elle says staying fit helps her unwind at the end of a stressful day and, more importantly, keep up with her boisterous young sons, Flynn, 11, and Cy, 6.
“Sometimes I need to run, other times to meditate. Sometimes I need to dance with my kids, and sometimes I just need a good meal,” she says.
And while she also credits “good genes” for her sleek physique, celebrity trainer James Duigan, who has worked with Elle for 12 years, says there is actually a simple science to achieving your best beach body – at any age.
“Elle is not your average body, it’s true – she is ‘The Body’, after all,” James admits. “But Elle has a really holistic approach to her health. It sounds boring, but it’s all about getting back to basics as well as understanding a little nutritional science.”
According to James, there are five keys to Elle’s “clean, green, lean” look.
