An actress who starred in Neighbours in the 1990s has engaged the services of a private child-retrieval firm to take custody of her toddler son in Malaysia.
The Sydney Morning Herald says Eliza Szonert ‘snatched her child back from her estranged musician partner in dramatic scenes in a restaurant in Malaysia.’
Footage of the incident shows Eliza entering a restaurant where her former partner, musician Ashley Crick, is seated with their son.
She is accompanied by two men, who are believed to be from the child-retrieval firm.
The two men engage Ashley in conversation, while Eliza steps around the table, picks up her son, and leaves with him.
Eliza had previously appealed to the Australian High Commission in Malaysia to help her retrieve her son from Ashley’s care.
She says she travelled to Malaysia to stay with her former partner, but they had an argument.
She alleges the disagreement ‘resulted in her being ordered out of their accommodation without the child or her passport.’
Eliza told The Herald ‘she still did not have any passports for herself or her son, leaving them stranded in Malaysia.’
“I am calling on the Australian government to provide all necessary assistance to help my son and I return to Australia,” she said.
Szonert, 41, played Danni Stark in Neighbours from 1993 to 1996. She also played Trish Moran in Underbelly.
