“I’m more of a closet romantic,” grins the former Cleo Bachelor Of The Year, who is officially off the market after getting down on one knee in a Kyoto street to surprise the Perth lawyer two weeks ago.

Although he planned to pop the question a few days later, Eamon, 29, says the setting simply chose itself.

“We were walking one night and came across a lone tree in full bloom, complete with white doves,” he says. “It was amazing and as we stood there looking up, Naomi said, ‘Gee, this is so romantic; it would be a good spot for someone to propose.’ So I dropped to one knee and asked her to marry me.”

No wonder his sweetheart felt too overwhelmed to give him an answer straight away!

“I was stunned,” says the gorgeous Naomi, 28. “I kept laughing and crying, trying to take it all in. Eamon is my best friend and I love him to bits, but I had to calm myself down before I could actually say yes. Especially as the ring had been hidden in his camera bag, which he’d left behind in cafes all over Japan. It’s lucky I’m not wearing a Cheezel instead!”

Eamon and Naomi met in Perth in 2011 and kept in touch by text while the Olympic 100m freestyle silver medallist was living and training in Sydney and competing around the world.

“I think that’s what attracted me; I’ve always known Naomi liked me for being me. There’s never been anything else between us, just us in love for who we are as people. As I’ve discovered over the years, that’s pretty rare, so I feel very lucky.”
