Now this is a photo fail if ever there was one – can you see it?
Ahead of its fifth season, Downton Abbey has released new press photos of its cast, dressed in authentic regalia but there is something amiss in one of the images.
In a promotional portrait of Robert Crawley, played by Hugh Bonneville, and Lady Edith, played by Laura Carmichael, one might notice an era-inappropriate prop on the mantle of the well-to-do duo – a plastic water bottle!
This season the show is set in 1924 and while the other urns and vases on the fireplace are historically accurate of the early-Twentieth Century period disposable bottles, like the one spotted in the picture, weren’t around until 1947, and it wasn’t until the ’60s that plastic bottles were mass-produced by manufacturers.
Then again, perhaps the plastic bottle’s presence isn’t a mistake at all and the show could be taking a leaf out of Lost’s book and introducing a sci-fi twist in the coming season?
Nah, it’s probably just a mistake but it would be good if Mary could have time travelled to go and get Matthew back, right?
Season five of Downton Abbey is due to air in early 2015.
