Seven years ago, Dara Lawson began struggling with her health – gut health in particular – and after a long search she discovered the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle.

“So I went on a search with the help of many specialists and alternative therapists to find out what was wrong and what I could do to alleviate my symptoms,” she said.

Plant-based alternatives helped Tigerlily’s health issues.

“One of the changes I made back then was moving to a plant based diet, which slowly but surely made a big impact on my health.

“The more healthy I felt, the more passionate I became about finding out what I was actually doing which then led me to really understand the core of veganism.”

“I’ve had so many positive changes since going plant based. I lost weight and toned up, my skin and hair has been healthier and better than ever, I think I look more energetic and younger.

“By opting out of meat and animal products you’re not only saving the lives of hundreds if not thousands of animals, you’re also saying no to the big corporations that make trillions of dollars every year as a result of animal suffering and environmental degradation.”

She has been plant-based for seven years.

However her new lifestyle hasn’t come without some challenges after admitting being a “touring DJ” made it “difficult to maintain a balanced and healthy diet.” And given her recent pregnancy with husband Scott Lawson, keeping up with a vegan diet has been “tricky”.

“I put in work during the week when I’m not touring to eat well, sleep well and exercise well so on the weekends it’s slightly less important if I can’t find great food options,” she said.

“I’m also pregnant at the moment so that has made things a little trickier as I’ve had to avoid a lot of pre-made and pre-cut salads etc and has also meant that I’ve been needing to rest a lot more, as well as eat a lot more.”

But ordinary people – with an ordinary schedule –do not have to worry about such complications. Tigerlily suggested to those considering a plant-based diet learn how to “veganise your favourite recipes”.

“So you are eating similar meals with familiar flavours and textures. A great idea that I’ve seen a lot of friends have success with is to remove one animal product a month. This makes the process a lot easier with less shock to your body and lifestyle.”

She pointed out alternative options have grown in the recent years! Even her hubby enjoys plant-based options.

In her endeavour to “smash misconceptions about vegan food being bland,” Tigerlily has helped create an alternative burger called DJ TUNALILY Burger in collaboration with Soul Burger and Future Farm.
