This week, the release of the America’s Got Talent host’s new tune Oh Well caused a media frenzy, with speculation that the scornful lyrics of the hip-hop song were written about his ex-wife, Mariah Carey.
“I won’t lie, our relationship was a lie, but baby some die,” the 35-year-old rapped before adding:
“All you needed was a n—- with the money, cars and cribs.”
Hmm… Money? Cars? Could the father-of-two be referencing his ex’s fiancé and billionaire tycoon, James Packer?
Despite the uncanny links, it would seem as if the scathing song has no correlation to Mariah at all, as yesterday Nick took to Twitter to embark on a Kanye-esque rant to personally address the rumours whilst simultaneously defending the mother of his children.
“Sorry to disappoint the bottom feeders but you won’t be hearing any diss records from me unless it’s about the GOVERNMENT! LOL,” he wrote to his 5 million followers.
“How many times do I have to reiterate @MariahCarey and I are super cool! Stop trying to create negativity, we will never subscribe to it,” he added.
The couple had been married for six years before Nick filed for divorce from Mariah on December 12, 2014. But insiders close to the couple had been reporting “trouble in paradise” months before the papers were finalised.
“There is trouble in paradise,” the TV host confirmed to The Insider. “We have been living in separate houses for a few months.”
However, with a New Year to aid as a fresh start, the now-exes are on good terms. After all, they do parent four-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe together.
In June 2015, it surfaced the We Belong Together singer had found herself a new man in the shape of Aussie billionare businessman, James Packer.
Speaking of their whirlwind romance in July last year, Mimi gushed: “We first met in Aspen [Colorado]. We were at the Hercules premiere. We were talking and laughing, and people were getting mad at us and stuff like that. So we hit it off.”
The Barangaroo billionaire proposed to the pop star with a sparkling 35 carat ring worth $7.5 million earlier this year.
Although it hadn’t been long since the songbird pulled the plug on her previous marriage to Nick Cannon, the TV personality took the highroad and extended a heartfelt congratulations with an Instagram caption.
“Congrats to @MariahCarey and James! May God Bless Your Future Union… #GreatPeople #GreatCouple”
