Despite being mother to arguably two of the most famous celebrity offspring of all time, Debbie Rowe has managed to keep a fairly low profile.
But the mother of Paris and Prince Jackson, whose dad was the King of Pop Michael Jackson, has recently been thrown back into the limelight with the announcement earlier this year that she is battling breast cancer.
And the 57 year-old has now opened up about her battle, telling ET that her 18-year-old daughter has been supporting her throughout chemotherapy.
“She’s my rock, she’s amazing,” Debbie said during the interview. “She’s been with me the whole time. She was there. First phone call, (it) took her 30 seconds (to reach out) when she found out.”
She also said that Paris was her “reason” to get out of bed each day.
Earlier this month, Paris uploaded a picture of the pair to Instagram, captioned, “I’m a fighter because she’s a fighter. love you mom.” Talking about the snap during the interview, Debbie said, “For her to kiss my bald head… [her love] is pretty unconditional.”
Debbie met Michael Jackson when she was a nurse in a dermatology office, where Jackson was being treated for vitiligo. The pair married in 1996, and had two children – Prince and Paris – before divorcing in 2009.
The pair have always had a tumultuous relationship, and Rowe went to a private judge to have her parental rights for the two children terminated in 2001. She later went to court to have the decision reversed.
Until this summer, Paris and Debbie hadn’t been seen together for a few years – Paris even unfollowed her mother on social media at the beginning of the year. However, Debbie now says their relationship is “awesome”.
“I can’t tell you how much I love her,” she gushed. “We go for sushi, we talk about music, and we text all the time.”
